The Montenegrin American Alumni Society (MAAS) was officially launched on July 29, 2026, at an event hosted at the Chief of Mission’s Residence in Podgorica, marking a new chapter for Montenegro’s community of alumni of programs supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Building on the legacy of the Montenegrin American Youth Alumni Association, MAAS reflects the evolution of the alumni community into a diverse and accomplished network of professionals, educators, entrepreneurs, public servants, civil society representatives, artists, and leaders. The new identity represents not simply a change of name, but a broader vision for connecting alumni across generations and sectors and harnessing their experience in service of both countries.
MAAS extends its sincere gratitude to the U.S. Embassy in Montenegro for hosting the launch and for its continued partnership and support throughout the organization’s revitalization. The Society also expresses its appreciation to the U.S. Embassy in Skopje and the Macedonian American Alumni Association for their support, including through the regional alumni summit and grant assistance that helped advance this important transition.
The event also introduced the newly elected MAAS Board, which will guide the organization through its next phase of development. The Board will lead MAAS in connecting alumni, sharing knowledge, supporting community initiatives, contributing to the development of both countries, the United States and Montenegro, and strengthening the enduring partnership between the two nations.
