[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.27.6″ organization began in 2010, when alumni of two U.S. Government exchange programs \u2014 the A-SMYLE high-school program (today FLEX) and the Global UGRAD undergraduate exchange \u2014 registered the first joint alumni association in the country under the name Montenegrin American Youth Alumni Association, or MAYAA. The founding idea was simple and stubborn: people who had spent a year of their life inside an American school, university, or workplace came home changed, and that change deserved a home.1<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t MAYAA organized the Montenegro Civic Education Week, ran the regional human rights camp “Connecting Generations, Connecting Communities” that brought together young people from Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Kosovo, supported the Food Bank in Montenegro through volunteers and logistics, and joined ENAM to participate in pan-European projects such as “Bright Ideas at Work” on youth entrepreneurship. MAYAA representatives were received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, took part in regional youth peace-building projects supported by RYCO, and grew the Facebook community of Montenegrin U.S. exchange alumni into the largest in the country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t A clear truth had emerged. The alumni community in Montenegro had outgrown the youth frame. Fulbright scholars, Humphrey fellows, IVLP participants, SUSI graduates, journalists from the Media Exchange Programs and many others had no shared home. MAYAA was strong but narrow.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t On 12 February 2026, the Assembly<\/span>\u00a0adopted a new Statute transforming MAYAA into the Montenegrin American Alumni Society \u2014 MAAS in English, CAAU in Montenegrin (Crnogorsko-ameri\u010dko alumni udru\u017eenje). The change is not cosmetic. MAAS is open to the alumni of every U.S. Government-funded exchange programme in Montenegro, of every generation and profession, with one shared mission: to make sure that what alumni learned in the United States continues to benefit Montenegrin society, institutions, and the people who come after them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n\t<\/div>\n\n\tAbout MAAS<\/h1>\n
